Starting your day off right by eating a healthy breakfast is not that difficult to do. By the time mid-morning comes along and your co-workers are looking for the breakfast Danish to go with their cup of coffee, you will still be feeling energized.

Eating a good breakfast with whole grains, fruits and protein helps to keep you feeling fuller longer. It will make you rely less on caffeine to keep your energy levels up.

Here are some easy and delicious breakfast recipes. Make a list and pick these items up so that there is no excuse to stop at your favorite coffee shop in the morning.

Almond and Apple English Muffin

Toast a whole-wheat English muffin. On half, spread 1 tablespoon almond butter and top with ½ of a thinly sliced apple. Sprinkle with cinnamon and cover with the remaining muffin half.

What you need to have on hand:

Whole wheat or whole grain English muffins (keep in freezer or fridge to extend shelf life)

Almond butter (you can find almond butter near the peanut butter or in the organic food section)

Apples (fall is here and the choices of apples are numerous- choose your favorite)

Cinnamon (there are so many reasons to have cinnamon- make sure it is pure cinnamon and not cinnamon sugar!)

Hot cinnamon oats with dried fruit

Bring 1 cup apple cider to a boil. Add ½ cup oats; cook for 5 minutes.

Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon chopped dried fruit and 1 tablespoon flaxseed.

What you need to have on hand:

Apple cider (find in your produce aisle)

Oats (cereal aisle)

Dried fruit (cherries,cranberries,apricots- look in your store’s produce section for dried fruits)

Flaxseeds (look in your produce or cereal aisle)

Make ahead breakfast

Whole grain banana muffins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together ½ cup whole wheat flour,1 cup oats, ¼ teaspoon salt,1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon, ½ teaspoon baking soda and 1 ½ bananas,mashed.

Mix together ½ cup plain nonfat yogurt, 1 egg, ¼ cup honey, 2 tablespoons canola oil and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Add wet mixture to dry and stir until ingredients are combined.

Place into 6 muffin tins and bake 12 minutes (if you do not use paper liners, spray pan with baking spray)

You can freeze leftovers. Makes a great grab and go breakfast.

Whole wheat flour

Oats

Non-fat yogurt

Honey

Eggs

Canola oil
